For years, Jean is left to raise her two daughters by herself. Their relationship suffers as they grow older and the girls resent their mother for putting little effort into providing for them and never letting them be a part of her social life. There's no high schooler who doesn't love the idea of having a house party, but when Jean's daughter Bridget throws one knowing she is grounded, she learns that her friends don't like it as much as she thought. Jean can't help but notice how out of control things are getting and worries about the safety of those at the party. While trying to get a handle on what's going on, she starts to look around the house next door and realizes just how messy it is. She can't help but notice that her neighbor, Dustin, always seems to have a lot of visitors over there. This is just the beginning of what Jean discovers as she learns exactly who her neighbor is and why he has no interest in being a part of her own social life. The film opens with an introduction from the director titled "The House Next Door" stating that he has been making movies for 26 years now. The short clips show several scenes from his previous films. It then cuts to a scene from his movie "Stranded". He then introduces us to the two major actors in the movie, Alex and Melissa. The scene cuts from a breakfast scene with an abusive husband to a party scene with a group of high school friends. The director explains what drew him to send the actors on crazy adventures for a week for a sort of scavenger hunt. He tells us that he felt this approach would be more fun and yet still give him enough material to make the film. The redheaded girl from breakfast is revealed as Bridget, who is being grounded by her mother Jean for throwing a party while she was supposed to be studying for the SAT's. The scene cuts to Bridget's friends, Laurie (who is played by Melissa) and Alyssa (played by Alex). The redhead tells them, "I can't believe my mom grounded me for this! What am I gonna do?" Alyssa replies, "You're going to have a party." The other girls agree and begin planning the party while the boys go after their own plans. Laurie realizes she only has her cell phone to call everyone while Alyssa tells her that she will use a pay phone. Bridget then calls a special friend named Dustin who agrees to come over. When Bridget gets home from school she is surprised to find her mom waiting for her. She tells her that she is grounded forever, which angers Bridget who exclaims, "What?! Forever?!" When her mom isn't able to talk Bridget down from this ground she hands a paper with a list of things she needs to do for the week. Bridget is very upset by this and leaves the house to go home. She runs into Dustin lying on his couch passed out and looking drunk. He tells her that he is tired of being grounded and that his friends will be there soon before passing out again. cfa1e77820
